I want to install Fail2Ban but what i try, I cannot. I run the appliance and did follow all instructions, but nevertheless I cannot install fail2ban.

mail:~ # zypper install fail2ban

Problem: 1: the to be installed fail2ban-0.11.2-150400.2.4.noarch requires 'ed', but this requirement cannot be provided
not installable providers: ed-1.17-150400.1.5.x86_64[base]

Solution 1: deinstallation of busybox-ed-1.35.0-150400.4.5.1.noarch
Solution 2: do not install fail2ban-0.11.2-150400.2.4.noarch
Solution 3: break fail2ban-0.11.2-150400.2.4.noarch by ignoring some of its dependencies

So i try the solution: 1

mail:~ # zypper remove busybox-ed

So ignoring everything and after a machine snapshot removed busybox....

Killing grommunio in the end. leaving me with a crippled machine.

Finally had to restore complete machine but, how can i solve this?

mail:~ # rpm -qi gromox | head -n 3
Name : gromox
Version : 2.35.21.gfdc2573
Release : lp155.16.1

wim-bart I run the appliance and did follow all instructions,

    Could you elaborate on this?

wim-bart Killing grommunio in the end. leaving me with a crippled machine.

What exactly is broken? Reinstall postfix and clamav if you did install that yourself in the past because you probably have some milter setting in postfix which also will fail w/o it installed.

    And that patterns-grommunio isn't needed.

    wim-bart Solution 1: deinstallation of busybox-ed-1.35.0-150400.4.5.1.noarch

    1. Why is busybox-ed installed on this system? I do not have busybox-ed on my systems.
    2. which OS type and version is used?
    • crpb replied to this.

WalterH Why is busybox-ed installed on this system? I do not have busybox-ed on my systems.

I just thought about that while having a couple hosts open in tmux-cssh.
There are installations where i have busybox+/busybox-ed present..

Seems like busybox-ed comes from the appliance.. after looking through /var/log/zypp/history.

No idea what those Würstchen(Nürnberger) want with that..

BUt i can't find it anymore on a fresh VM so that changed again how the IMAGE is built or the dependencies in SuSe.... not clear to me but well.. It is probably not tinkering but just bad luck 🤦

      Sorry for the late reaction.

I have the appliance also and did not install it myself and it is there. I did install the appliance about 3 years ago and did an upgrade along the way. Never installed busybox or busybox-ed myself.

The only extra i did install in the appliance are:

      • netcattools
      • nano
      • clamav

I did manage to install it using just ignore all dependencies. and it works.

      And it came with Griommunio:
