Migration from Kopano to Grommunio

Hi @ all this is my first post here at Grommunio 🙂.

I need to switch to Grommunio from Kopano. I have a database with the attachments stored in the database.
This is my plan:

Stop the productive system and save the whole VM
Restore the whole VM and try to store the attachments outside the database.
Create a backup of the current Kopano database
Install a new Debian Server
Install Grommunio Community on the fresh Debian server
Restore the Database on the fresh server?
Use gromox-kdb2mt
How do i restore the attachments?

Then i have a special setup with fetchmail which i need to test if I can do successfully the steps above.
Did i forget something?

I would clone/backup the old server, try an attachment export. If it's working do it with the live system. and from there you can just use the mentioned script.

Thank you for this info, i didn't know until now about that script. I will check and try that. I hope I can export the attachments this is probably the "big" part. My database has around 12 GB so it's not that big as others I think.

On the Kopano server you find the script db-convert-attachments-to-files to export the attachments. Documentation: https://documentation.kopano.io/kopanocore_administrator_manual/upgrading.html

Right now i'm preparing everything for the first attempt. It looks like I need to do a lot of steps until i will be done....

Thank you for the script unfortunately I don't understand it where and how to use it? Do i need to add that in this script: https://github.com/grommunio/gromox/blob/prime/tools/kopano2grommunio.sh and if yes where do I need to add/change it?

Got it, i will let you know if i get it or not.

Is the database version crucial for this operation? I know that I have 8.7.25 in the versions table unfortunately I modified this version by myself in 2022. I had to that because Kopano didn't start.
Since i'm working in a software company and i'm a release test / project manager I have a bad feeling about this. Maybe my database has not all fields or some scripts are missing I don't know. In Kopano I never had any problems. I want to do a clean migration and also wipe out old stuff which I not need anymore.

The version in the table is not so important, the contents of the other tables are more important. With a Kopano version you had to update the tables to display the umlauts correctly. If this update is missing, you may get mails with wrong umlauts into the new system.

I am migrating as well, and i've set-up the kopano2grommunio.sh and it works as expected.

However, some mailboxes are very slow with migrating. I've tested this with 2 mailboxes, and i've added the -v flag to see the status.

first mailbox was 230mb and was migrated in a few minutes.
second mailbox was 78 mb, and after successfully transferring some mailentries it seems to "hang"
Here is the output, between 0% and 9% took about 50 minutes. After several hours the migration was complete, but i'm missings calendar items as well as contacts.

5/129 (4%)
12/129 (9%)

Any suggestions on how to speed this up? Is there maybe a db-tool i need to run onm kopano to "sanitize" the database?

when it slows down, i can see the mysql cpu load increase to 25% (while it stayed around 3% with the first migration) and a continous upload of around 2mb/sec.

Is there any way to see/monitor what the script is actually trying to do at that moment?
