sync problems

Hi everybody,
I discovered lot of errors at /var/log/nginx/nginx-mapi-error.log:

2026/01/14 19:31:29 [error] 820#820: *246253 no live upstreams while connecting to upstream, client: 10.0.0.39, server: _, request: "POST /mapi/emsmdb/?MailboxId=636e632d-6166-6661-4069-6d6d29000000@domain.com HTTP/2.0", upstream: "https://gromoxhttp/mapi/emsmdb/?MailboxId=636e632d-6166-6661-4069-6d6d29000000@domain.com", host: "mail.domain.com"

Can somebody help which parameters for sync should I change to avoid this errors?
Thank you very much for any advice.

edit: I noticed now the gromox http process runs nearly 100% too. Runs on Debian12, latest supported updates installed.

ladas I replay by myself. I tried modify parameters for gromox http, php-fpm, gromox, nothing helped. I inspect logs grommunio-sync-error.log and nginx-sync-error.log where was a lot of diferent errors. At the end I noticed the line:
16/01/2026 14:56:52 [288712] [ERROR] [user@domain.com] TimezoneUtil::guessTZNameFromPHPName() no compatible timezone found for 'EUROPE/BERLIN'. Returning 'GMT Standard Time'. Please contact the grommunio dev team.
I check date/time settings and everything looks OK. But at the end I refresh the settings by:
dpkg-reconfigure tzdata
and confirm the same settings. After restart all gromox services the gromox-http cpu usage falls down like magic. So I returned back slowly all my last settings modifications and discovered the rpc_proxy_connection_num parameter in /etc/gromox/gromox.cfg
I need to hold at 100 instead default 25.
Knows somebody how to count correct number or monitor the connection using?

In /etc/gromox/gromox.cfg there is no rpc_proxy_connection_num parameter! See https://docs.grommunio.com/man/gromox.cfg.5.html.
The rpc_proxy_connection_num parameter only exists in exmdb_provider midb and zcore.
Increasing this parameter in zcore is a good solution in most situations.
Default is 10 not 25.

WalterH Hi Walter,
you are right. Strange. This server is one of my first ones, maybe it is some historical artifact. So I move that to zcore.cfg
But unfortunately my joy was premature. gromox-http returns back at 100% in cca 1/2 hour. I tried modify php-fpm parameters, but not helped. After restart gromox services and php-fpm service it returns back in a few minutes.
At grommunio-sync-error.log is lot of records:

Mostly for one user and device is definitely iphone, because Outlook is off.
Therefore I thing it is sync problem.
Have you got some tip, what else should I check?
Yesterday I reseted synchronization by gromox-mbop -u $mailbox cgkreset for all mailboxes and removed outlook .ost files, but http prosess runs at 100% even all outlooks was off. Only mobile devices was connected from internet.

I cleaned the unused mobile phones last weekend. So, not now.

your tip was good, I havent any old phones in the system, but I tried resync all phones and it helped. It toked whole weekend (I resynced one by one) and at the end it helped. Now gromox-http runs for 100% very shortly and returns to nearly 0% for most of the time.
I checked the grommunio-sync-error.log file and they are still some errors, like:
19/01/2026 10:51:29 [79138] [ WARN] [user@domain.com] SyncObject->Check(): object from type SyncMail: parameter 'to' contains an invalid email address '"'Name Surname'" <>'. Address is removed.
It is interesting that the 'Name Surname'" <>' is always local user which is in global addressbook

It is seen the reset tzdata did not helped.

Is it possible to correct something to avoid this problems? Especially TimeZone? It seems this error is reported for each Calendar record sync.

Which version you are using? Post the output from: rpm -qa gromox

server should be updated to the latest support versions:
gromox 3.2.21.e912076-1+2.2
system-user-gromox 9-1

and it runs on Debian12.
