I ran into a failed logrotate.service on a grommunio appliance.
The root cause was the RabbitMQ logrotate configuration:
/etc/logrotate.d/rabbitmq-server
postrotate
/usr/sbin/rabbitmqctl rotate_logs > /dev/null
endscript
I had RabbitMQ version 4.1.5 and the command
rabbitmqctl rotate_logs
returns:
Error:
This command does not rotate logs anymore [deprecated]
Because the command exits with a non-zero return code, logrotate reports:
error running shared postrotate script for '/var/log/rabbitmq/*.log'
andlogrotate.service ends up in a failed state.
Commenting out the postrotatesection in /etc/logrotate.d/rabbitmq-server resolved the problem and logrotate completed successfully afterwards.
This appliance had previously been upgraded from openSUSE Leap 15.6 to 16.0, so I cannot say whether the issue is upgrade-related or if the outdated logrotate configuration is still shipped by the package. Also, not every grommunio appliance may be affected, as RabbitMQ is not installed or used in every setup.
