Running and licensing grommunio

Hello, I read about the 5 user restriction in the "community" edition.
What exactly is the "community" edition? Is this a self hosted installation without a license?
If I compile grommunio from source and install it all by myself, does the restriction still apply?

AFAIK you can use all features in the CE with up to 5 users.

Something I was curious about. Is it 5 users total or 5 users per domain?

I am looking for a replacement for Exchange, but my case differs from possibly the typical user. We use Exchange for our home email system. My "network" expands across 6 homes, all on a cul-de-sac and we have a couple racks of equipment that support the homes. We are basically moving away from relying on the other companies (Google, Apple, Microsoft) and rather maintain everything ourselves. So far, we're liking Grommunio, but our family has 29 users and I am not sure if I can justify to the other family another expense of about $67 a month. Especially since back when we moved to Exchange, we purchased a new server as even though the majority of our servers had 256gb of ram. Is there another option for obtain more user, or a one time purchase?

5 users as we see it here (mailboxes or resources) per today start of October 2021 is the limit of the CE.

U can use 5 domains with 5 users
Or 3 domains with 2-1-2

The limitation is the user not the domain

For more users u have to pay
For each user 1,99 Excl VAT here 20%
Eg. 13 users for 1 year basic version

(13x1,99)x12)x1,2= 372 eur per year incl. Vat

Anything I missed?
