Hi There. I just set up a new GRO (2022.12.01) version, updated it to the latest updates and the restored the previously backuped EMails from PSTs files. I have four mailboxes. The GRO runs as a VM on a Synology NAS ds818plus with 4 CPUs, 6GB RAM and a VM SSD which I started with 200GB and now upgraded it to 400GB.
mailbox 1 = 7,6 GB
mailbox 2 = 948,9 MB
mailbox 3 = 255,9 MB
mailbox 4 = 819,3 MB
When I set up the new GRO last week it settled at approx. 125GB when all mailboxes where copied. Yesterday I was at 185GB. And - just one day later - I'm hitting the 300GB mark of storage.
Yesterday I was at 285GB. This morning at 304GB. Now at 358GB. Not getting any emails which would explain that amount of increase. Where is the GRO getting all those gigabytes of data? I cannot explain why the GRO is increasing storage so fast. I'm not getting so much mails.
I assume that the GRO itself is secured by default so that I cannot be used as open smtp server to send spam. However my Sophos UTM - which I have behind my FritzBox 6591 and in front of my Synology which is filtering all incoming emails scanning for spam using RBLs and scanning in as well as outgoing emails.
Does anyone has an idea why the GRO is consuming so much disk space on my system? Or can let me know which settings (main.cf?) I can check/tighten so make the GRO more secure or identify where the fast increase of data storage consumtion comes from?
I just compared the folders beneath /var/lib/gromox/users/ with the sizes from this morning and could figure out that only my main mailbox where I use the full setup (mail, calendar, contacts and notes) was increasing so much. With all the other inboxes I dont't use the full setup. Only in another mailbox of four I use calendar. But this was wasn't increasing at all.
I found a folder "/.snapshots" which has approx 10GB. But that isn't the reason. The size comes from the "/var" folder where the GRO stores the email account data. Attached a overview of my /var/lib/ folder:
