  • grommunio-index can't search store from outlook, where are logs?

Hi, thanks,

Yes I use cached exchange mode - but how would outlook with local index be able to search in the mails that aren't stored locally?

When I click "Find more on the server", nothing happens, no more results. Shouldn't it connect to the server and retrieve more matches?

Same thing happens on multiple computers, so it can't just be corrupt search index.

Or did I misunderstand, and grommunio doesn't support searching on the server from outlook at all?

Only in online mode. In Caching mode, Windows search is responsible for the index.

Right. I feel dumb as a bag of rocks.

I tried to turn off "cached exchange mode". Now searches don't return anything, even on recent items. I do see something in gromox-http log about ropCreateFolder, ropSetSearchCriteria though, so I guess I have something wrong server side too.

The only option that would actually make searches work on all mail items is enabling cached mode and dragging the slider to "All" then?

Sorry to repeat last question, as your reply wasn't really clear to me (bag of rocks):

Does grommunio not support cached mode searching on non-cached items? Is this what @mwilliams was referring to might come in 2024? Or have i misconfigured something?

Bonus question: If full cached mode is only option; Is there a way to tell grommunio to hint to the client (outlook) that it should set the cache to "all" so I don't manually have to think about it?

Those can be managed by registry settings. I don't have it on hand but they are all documented at https://learn.microsoft.com/ somewhere.

Thanks for the report - We've been able to reproduce some online search-related issues. OL tricks here in some (yet) unclear ways - must be something recently introduced by MS. gromox does its job, example case we have currently: a) search for specific term where 8000 objects are matched. OL displays a single found object, <search continues in OL>, in the meanwhile MFCMAPI shows we populate the search folder for OL to pickup correctly with 8000 elements, yet OLD does not show any results we provide to OL -> 0 objects found. @bheam To understand and match: Which exact OL version are you using (check outlook.exe version)? So far this issue develops quite similar to KB5008212 (an outlook bug, do not use the workaround, it will not help), but we continue investigating.

Not sure my issue is the same though. My issue is that server side searches do not work at all. "Find more on the server" just returns the same items as the local cache search.

Opening a folder (not searching) that only has old items works though (show items on server actually lists some items)
