what this shows is that (whatever service you are using) is not using password authentication. Since it is assumed the user "gromm" has a password (btw: not a default user created by the appliance), it is not trying to use the password for the authentication.

Maybe some (incomplete) though misconfigured postfix file trying authentication without password in your setup?

Is your /etc/gromox/adaptor.cfg file setup correctly (user name and password)?

You can log into mysql with these credentials like:
mysql -u gromm -p

On my system, the socket /run/mysql/mysql.sock exists. But in /etc/my.cnf there is no active variable for it. Possibly a SLE issue?

As outlined in the link: It indeed is a SUSE issue and our workaround is placed in the upcoming ISO version. However SUSE should fix it imho.

Bug is reported, no progress there (yet), but again, we have a workaround soon in place.

should there be a a mysql.sock in /var/lib/mysql/

I would never ignore an error message, always look for the error or at least watch until the solution is found.

passwd to password in/etc/gromox/adaptor.cfg
