Outlook shared calendar empty

If I give full permissions to a user, email and calendar are shared correctly and all the shared calendar appointments are visible.

If I only share a calendar (via the web client or Outlook 365), Outlook connects to the shared calendar, briefly shows all the appointments on that shared calendar, and then all the appointments disappear from the shared calendar. The appointments are visible on the shared calendar from the web client.

Any thoughts?

Disabling caching for shared calendars does allow the appointments to display (thank you).

Unfortunately, enabling caching for large shared mailboxes is supposed to be the "workaround" for performance issues, so this leaves me with a poorly performing shared mailbox with a working shared calendar, or a performant shared mailbox with no shared calendar. Either isn't a reasonable solution, unfortunately...
