Christmas release && packaging adoptions
- Edited
mwilliams I tried to experiment with the released appliance image from 29 December 2022 https://download.grommunio.com/appliance/grommunio.aarch64-2022.12.1-Build1.6.raw.xz. It was and is clear that this is not a fully working appliance, and requires many of the components re-packaging so that they can all play together properly.
Is there any eta on when there will be a fully functional appliance to trial, given we are now 3 months later and still no working test evaluation appliance?
Thanks
Peter
Auf dem Appliance-Server gibt es die neue Version grommunio.x86_64-2022.12.1-Build25.27 vom 23.3.23. Ist das nun die 2022.12.1 mit den aktuellen Updates?
just downloaded the OVA (because i'm using vmware) but this won't make a difference in general

Great, so we have a new image.
Excellent - I'll give it a try and let you know how it works out!
Unfortunately the basic appliance for aarch64 https://download.grommunio.com/appliance/grommunio.aarch64-latest.raw.xz despite having a build date of 23-03-2023 it is still functionally/practically as useless as the 1st December 2022 build, when put on a Raspberry Pi 4 8gb
Out of the box the image simply does not work. Yes I know there are a whole bunch of manual things I can edit and faff about with to make some of the very basic functionality work - like for example editing nginx.conf, and manually configuring Let's Encrypt Certificates. - But really this level of faff is sub-optimal, and the installation/setup script should take care of it.
I'd be happy to, and offered in the past to undertake a contract to package the installation script and set up so that at least the Raspberry Pi install would work with basic functionality out of the box - but it met with silence. I had got my hopes up today that the install would at last work out of the box, but alas I was sadly mistaken.
Is there a mailing list I can join so that if\when at some point in the future the aarch64 image is updated to actually work I can take another look? In the meantime I am quite frustrated that there goes another 3 hours of my life faffing with Grommunio software which simply is not ready for or properly packaged for use, on a inconsequential hardware as it purports to work upon.
That's too negative. From my side I can say that Core works fine, but the optional modules Chat, Archive, Meet, Files still do not work.
However, it must be said that in the background the connection to these modules must be prepared, so Files runs with Nextcloud, Chat runs with Mattermost etc. But which documents we have how to set up this background and as long as only a few people have maybe some details, everyone else will doubt the functionality.

Hi Andy even looking at just basic (Core) functionality the published appliance image of 23 March 2023 that I referenced simply doesn't work out of the box on aarch64 hardware at all. Have you tried the appliance image for say a Raspberry Pi 4, 8Gb? You'll find from the get go that nginx will not spin up properly because the installation script is compromised, You will end up having to manually jank around with nginx.conf. That's a sub-optimal experience that knocks confidence and needlessly zaps time. For a heads up for anyone who might like to get some of the functionality working on a Raspberry Pi 4 then I have previously provided some details I learnt on the December image at https://community.grommunio.com/d/635-rpi-opensuse-154-installation-of-grommunio-chat
